RIST and USTM observed National Education Day

Techno city, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya, 13 November 2017: The only way that an university can progress is that it must reach out to the people by bringing innovation to teaching methods, inspiring students to do things that can contribute to the society. This was stated by Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya while speaking on National Education Day on 11 November to commemorate Maulana Abul Kalam Azad—the great visionary and the architect of education system of the country. Organised by the Regional Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) and the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) with the theme “Maulana Azad: The Architect of Education in Modern India”, the function was participated by hundreds of students and teachers, apart from the dignitaries.
Delivering his welcome address Prof Choudhury said, “I salute Maulana Abul Kalam Azad for his immense contribution to the national educational scenario. We should think about upgrading our education and be innovative and impart cooperative teaching”. While universities were earlier considered as places of study and research only, the present concept is that universities should produce people who think not only about personal growth, but also try to reach out to people, he added.
In the Keynote address, Prof. Alaka Sarma, Dean, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, USTM said that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a great executor and remembered that all the big educational and cultural establishments such as IIT, UGC, Jamia Milia Islamia, Sangeet Natak Akademy, Lalit Kala Academy etc. are the brainchild of this great visionary. “He gave great importance in building institutions. He laid the foundation stone and streamlined the whole education system of India”, she added.
Addressing the participants, M Hoque, Chancellor, USTM said, “We must carry forward the mission of great personalities like Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and contribute towards development of the human resource of the country”.
